This year’s Open Banking World Congress is set to be the first event of its kind to have its entire carbon emissions fully offset. The innovative I AM project brings together technology, art and sustainability, to include all the participants in the event.
Working with Carbon Free Brasil, over 1,000 trees will be planted and maintained, restoring over 8,000 square metres of native forests. The costs of the project are being covered by event organisers Open Future World and sponsor Finansystech.
Each delegate to the event receives a special access card. Activation of the card gives the delegate an NFT representing one piece of a specially commissioned artwork by Brazilian artist Lincoln Lima. As all the pieces are activated, the full image will be displayed on monitors at the event.
“Brazil is a global leader in open finance, and also has a vital role to play in the battle against climate change. I’m delighted that we’re able to bring these two together at Open Banking World Congress, not just offsetting emissions but encouraging everyone to get involved,” says Finansystech CEO Danillo Branco.
“Being able to meet face-to-face with so many leaders from the world of open finance adds something we’ve been missing over the last couple of years, but we recognise the impact that climate change is having. This project turns what could have been a negative into something amazing,” adds Open Future World’s Nick Cabrera.
Open Banking World Congress, the world’s leading open finance conference, is being held in Marbella on 24-25 May, with a pre-event networking mixer on the evening of 23 May. Free tickets are also available
to a virtual programme for those who are unable to attend in person. Last year’s fully virtual event attracted a global audience of over 4,500 participants from more than 100 countries around the world.
